#30daysofdresses – day 20

Ah, me and my little Ricky in Vegas, or as our dad likes to call us, the Point Sisters.

This is one of my new favorite dresses – it is soooooo 60s housewife and a style I wouldn’t normally have picked out. Jess found it when I went out with her a few weeks ago and I’ve been dying to wear it.

Also, it has POCKETS.

This night we went out to Carmine’s in Vegas for my dad’s 60th birthday, ate a bunch of family style food with a weird waiter serving our party of 14, ordering bottles of wine with my brother and getting to take photos with my grandpa. Good times.

Dress is H&M. Heels are Steve Madden or Aldo – I am too lazy to go look right now – from forever ago. Side-kick is my sister who has way more style than me. #nottwins

Sundays Are For (Week 30)

Starting Week In The Life, creating an insert for my One Little Word class, slow-cooking sausage and peppers, eating chili cheese dip, hanging with my sister who came over to watch the Giants’ game (they lost). A trip to the dog park where I felt good and then breaking the vacuum somehow battling the fleas, and having a meltdown. Taking a hot shower and relaxing. Feeling insane and then so good. Walking outside in jeans, feeling the breeze and no more heat wave. Being thankful for H and his calm, for his new skill of making us omelets, for chai tea and saying ‘no thanks’ to alcoholic beverages. For getting enough sleep but still being so sleepy. For Amazon video so we can finish season 1 of Homeland and cookie dough ice cream and creating. For days off and weekends and life.

See more Sundays Are For.

day 11: play

And an easy Sundays Are For post – 3m run alone, playing Bejeweled on the iPad non-stop, biking to the beach with my sister, listening to a podcast, reading a book and grilling steaks.

Yesterday I did a lot more than I think I did, because I spent all of the day in the house, lounging. Got some computer work done – backed up my laptop, downloaded and organized Big Picture Classes materials, bought ink at Staples, and cooked dinner for us (my sister was over too). We all went out for fro-yo at Yogurtland (my fav) and then I stayed up a tad too late.

It’s been a really good weekend. I’m looking forward to this week being quiet before I head to the East Coast again for a work trip. I need as much downtime / quiet as possible. And a haircut.

day 4: love

Yesterday we had an entire day in Philly. It was SO MUCH FUN. I plan on sharing a longer post , but for now, here’s a shot in honor of August Break. See all of my August Break 2013 posts here.

Parents In LA

It’s been months since I saw my parents in Vegas and they haven’t visited LA since Thanksgiving November 2011 when we purchased my wedding dress. And we didn’t go home for Christmas this year. So, it’s been a while. And in that time, both my brother and sister relocated to southern California as well. This was the first visit with all three kids here.

I think this trip set the bar for the next one. Until then, we’ll talk about how they stayed with my sister and helped her fix apartment issues. How her landlord is finicky; they needed him to snake the kitchen sink, we couldn’t cook, so we ate In&Out. Mom and Dad got milkshakes. We’ll talk about how we drove up to Duke’s in Malibu for lunch near the ocean, and could only get the table right off the patio in the bar. The pictures above are from our stop on PCH because traffic was backed up.

They’ll tell people how they visited Newport Beach where my brother lives, hung out on the beach, ate good food. How they had dinner with his boss, and my sister and I split a bottle of wine. How our hotel ended up being where the Yankees were staying and my mom got a photo with Mariano Rivera. (Highlight of the trip for them, I’m sure).

We’ll talk about meeting up at Malibu Wines after they got lost, and how it was relaxing but the flies landing on our picnic sucked. How they loved the aquarium by the Tanked guy the most. They may mention sitting in our apartment relaxing, walking Carter with me or how Mom and I got mani-pedis. They’ll definitely mention the hike my sister took them on and seeing the sunset. And possibly the dinner of pizza and wine in my neighborhood.

We’ll talk about my sister’s crazy dance moves to Blurred Lines, margaritas and mexican food. How they shopped at Home Deport and Bed, Bath and Beyond even though they were on vacation. And slept on air mattresses because of the layout of our apartments. They’ll rave about my sister’s job and company, about how nice of an apartment I live in, how my brother is doing really well. (They’re very proud of us).

And while all of this was nice, I will tell people about how it was so nice to finally spend time with my parents without them running around crazy. To talk to my dad while we walked the dog in my now-hometown, Los Angeles. That my mom was slightly choked up as I drove her home from our manicures, saying that we’d wasted so much time, and that our wedding was still the talk of people back home… and I told her it was OK – that everything’s working out just as it should.

And it has. And I think this trip was the best way to kick off our family now – with the three kids all grown up with jobs and apartments – and my parents settling into their empty-nest, saving money and building their business, so they can visit even more.

I very much look forward to it.

I’ll Take It

If this is what we get in return for my sister crashing with us for 6 months – I’ll take it!

Thanks Ricky ❤

Trivia Night

My sister (pictured. and no we’re not twins) is more than a little obsessed with trivia night. Because of that, I’ve now gone three weeks in a row. Each time it’s a completely different experience. I still can’t decide if it’s worth the time and money on a week night, or if I should’ve just stayed home. Guess I’ll have to go a few more times before making my final decision 😉

Last night’s bonus was a friend’s condiment tower. Because that’s how we do.

Sundays Are For (Week 22)

Even though my sister just moved out of our apartment (after 5+ months crashing here) doesn’t mean we don’t want to hang out with each other.

Today was CicLAvia – you can read more on their about page – but the gist is (from their site): CicLAvia makes the streets  safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike.

How awesome is that?

Today’s route ran downtown LA to Venice beach, and since I live along the route, I took part 2x.

My first ride I biked east bound with Carter Cash. This morning, I decided to give him a bath as he’s been itchy and quite stinky (H calls it “dirty sock” smell). But, once he gets a bath, he needs to be outside to dry off. Perfect opportunity to bike him around.

We didn’t go very far, but it was lovely. The street was wide open with only a few bikers out and about. And people definitely smiled when they saw my pup running alongside my beach cruiser.

My sister and I planned a beach day, so this was also perfect timing. We took our bikes with what felt like the rest of LA (it was uber-crowded by noon) down to Venice beach. And there were laid, on the sand, for a few hours. Listening to the ocean, napping, reading, and getting a tan.

What an awesome way to wrap up this week – and really – the last 5 weeks and the last 5 months.

Cheers. xo

Mission Accomplished

After 5 months and 3 weeks, days of sitting around, nights of the TV on, home-cooked meals, dinners out, dancing, karaoke, job interviews, one cross-country drive and apartment hunting – my sister is officially moved to LA.

Today she packed her stuff into our cars and we drove to her new apartment. We unloaded the random boxes and suitcases in 20min, since she really only has a car’s worth of stuff here right now. Then we headed off to a brewery with Carter in tow.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday at all.

And with that all said, I want to say congrats to her for making it all happen. Thank you to H for allowing my sister to stay with us for such a long time. And yay for me for making it through.

Winning all around.
